Directors get new terms on American Eagle board
During the annual American Eagle Outfitters shareholders meeting on the South Side today, three directors were elected to new three-year terms, including Chairman Jay Schottenstein; Roger S. Markfield, vice chairman and executive creative director; and Michael G. Jesselson, president of private investment company Jesselson Capital Corp. Shareholders also approved the company's executive compensation practices and voted to revisit the issue annually.
Retiring CEO James O'Donnell, 70, who has been with the company since 2000 and served as CEO since 2003, gave an update on the most recent fiscal year -- "a year not without challenges" -- and plans for the coming one. Total sales last year hit $3 billion, while sales at stores open at least a year fell 1 percent.
The retailer's board of directors was scheduled to meet after the official shareholders gathering.

One of the great things about mobile-marketing efforts today is that they can sometimes take the seemingly innocuous—something that always has been truly innocuous—and turn it into a little-noticed CRM bonanza. Consider a contest announcement made on Wednesday (June 15) by an American Eagle Outfitters brand (Aerie), where consumers were asked to use an app (Pose) on their phone to shoot pictures of people wearing that chain’s clothing.
The winning pictures would be displayed on the chain’s 25-story Times Square LED screen, and the photographer would get a $150 Aerie giftcard. The real prize goes to American Eagle, which can analyze and leverage the metatag data associated with each photo, revealing brand, store location, where the photo was shot and price. Shortly, such images could report back with much greater detail, including SKU, and, with near field communication, data could even include CRM history of both the photographer and the person being photographed. When they wrote that a picture’s worth a thousand words, they may have been frighteningly accurate.
All I can see here are privacy and security questions left, right, and center. What if the person being photographed is unaware of the photo? What if they don’t want to be CRM-ed to death by American Eagle Outfitters? How will American Eagle Outfitters protect that information? What will they do with it? What sort of meaningful opt-out of the information collection could the photographed subject provide?

What if they don't want to be CRM-ed to death by American Eagle Outfitters? How will American Eagle Outfitters protect that information? What will they do with it? What sort of meaningful opt-out of the information collection could the photographed subject provide? I know small companies, here in Colombia, investing great quantity of money, and great effort, in order to become PCI Compliant, just for one reason: The bank gives them all complete PAN, even if the small service provider doesn't need it. The owner of the company told to me: "I dont need the PAN, I have requested the bank to not send me the PAN, I dont want the PAN!!!" But you know: The bank send that number, increasing the risk of fraud. I think banks have the power, the money, and because of that, they enjoy some liberties, who needs who? who depends of who? If the banks, accord that they dont like PCI, what can the brands do?? who's bigger?? who's stronger?? who's the boss??... I've always have that doubt. This raises the question of why are local banks and the Secret Service getting to the scene of the crime before the acquirers and the card brands. Not knowing all the specifics of how CAMS works, it is easy to imagine that the local bank issuers have a much lower threshold for reacting to reported fraud. They have to, considering they don't have the fraud funds of larger national and regional banks. Local banks may also not be fully informed of what to do in the case of fraud and who to involve. This has been a problem for years. It is an across the board problem on all operating systems. The industry provides no internal audit tools and 90 of all advertising and therefore security money is spent on building walls to thwart external predators. Meanwhile back at the shop internal administrators have no auditing done on their IDs and the auditing that does happen rarely gets reviewed. The house of cards is ours.American Eagle Outfiters - Bookshelf
