Makeover at iconic Tillicum Village brings more Coast Salish lore

Seattle-based Argosy Cruises has revamped the dinner show at its Tillicum Village cultural center/tourist attraction and injected more authentic Native American culture from Puget Sound-area Coast Salish tribes.

Tillicum Village on Blake Island

Cruises depart from Pier 55 on Seattle's Elliott Bay waterfront. The boat ride to Blake Island takes 45 minutes and includes a brief narrated overview of Puget Sound and Native American history, plus a preview of Blake Island.

The overall trip to the island and back takes four hours, including a clam-and-nectar appetizer upon arrival and a 23-minute show with dinner. A buffet features king salmon that has been baked on cedar stakes over an alder-wood fire.

Traveler's tip

The island visit allows enough time to stroll around the complex after the dinner and show. If you want to spend more time on the island to take short hikes around the wooded state park, ask the Argosy staff if you may catch a later boat back to Seattle. Accommodations can be made if there is room on board.

You may purchase tickets at Pier 55 or in advance over the phone or online at www.argosycruises.com . Tickets are $79.95 for adults (13 and older), $72.95 for seniors (65 and older) and $30 for children (5-12). Free for children 4 and younger. Book a month in advance and get 10 percent off.

In June, Argosy operates Tillicum Village tours to Blake Island with show and dinner Wednesday-Sunday. From July through Sept. 5, two shows daily, Sunday-Friday, and three shows on Saturday. Starting Sept. 6, tours will be on weekends only, ending Oct. 30 for the season.
