Wine, beer will flow at Reitz Home Museum fundraiser
It's summer in the Midwest, time to come alive, said Joyce Thomas, executive assistant at the Reitz Home Museum . The museum's Wine Dive on Friday will offer visitors a taste of wine, beer and backyard barbecues to kick off the season.
"Basically it's just supposed to be kind of fun," Thomas said. "It's a way for people around the neighborhood to gather here."
The fifth annual event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets will be available to non-members for $40 and $35 for members. Top-shelf tasting also will be available from Carroll Wine and Spirits for an additional $20.
Rain or shine, Keith Vincent will play Jimmy Buffett-style music and Turoni's will provide specialty-brewed beers, Thomas said.
"No real liquor, just beer and wine," she said.
The Reitz Home Museum has a number of fundraisers throughout the year, the biggest being a derby at Ellis Park and the Victorian Christmas, Thomas said. But the Wine Dive will garner an average crowd of 150 to 200 participants.
"It's growing," Thomas said. "We have a whole committee that helps us out with this."
Money from the fundraisers goes toward keeping the museum in good condition and providing programs.
"We're trying to preserve it in its natural state," Thomas said. "We need to keep that up and keep it up to standard, make sure what we do works well in that time frame and not just an up-to-date thing that we throw in there to make it look antique."
Maintaining the museum provides visitors a look at what Evansville living was like in the past, Thomas said.
"At least for the wealthy people," she added.
Thomas said she thinks a good number of people will turn out on Friday.
"Weather will influence people's decisions," she said, "but it has proved to be pretty successful in the past."

I was assigned a couple of questions for a class assignment and I was wondering about these questions:
1. Who are the two allegorical characters and how are they representative of the Victorian Era?
2. What is the significance of the bells used throughout the play?
3. What is the significance of the boys and girl appearing as characters?
4. Why does the character Girl continue to appear to Scrooge? Why does Mrs. Cratchit sing the same song the Girl Sings?
5. Why would Charles Dickens give the story the title of A Christmas Carol?
Please help me out with these as I have no clue what any of the answers to these questions are! Please answer as many as you can then I’ll put it into my own words!
